#2 Grand Valley State Tops #10 Ferris State In GLIAC Women's Basketball Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's 10th-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs fell behind early on the road and fell to second-ranked rival Grand Valley State 63-38 on Thursday (Feb. 22) evening in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.

The Lakers jumped in front 17-11 at the end of the opening period and held an eight-point halftime lead. FSU managed to trim the lead down early in the second half, but the Lakers limited FSU to only 11 total points over the final two periods to garner the win and earn the split of the regular-season series.

The Bulldogs were outscored 13-6 in the third quarter and 15-5 in the fourth as Grand Valley State took a two-game lead over FSU atop the GLIAC standings with three games left in the regular-season.

Overall, the Lakers held FSU to 34.1% shooting, including a two-of-15 (13.3%) effort from behind the three-point arc, and forced 22 Bulldog turnovers that led to a 25-8 margin in points off turnovers for the game.

The Bulldogs were slightly outrebounded by a 35-34 count and the Lakers had only nine turnovers in the contest while FSU also went only six-of-12 (50%) at the free throw line.

Grand Valley State got 17 points from Paige Vanstee along with 12 by Rylie Bisballe and 10 from Nicole Kamin.

Ferris State, which fell to 18-4 overall this year, was led by senior forward DeShonna Day with eight points. Junior Kadyn Blanchard added seven points while junior Kenzie Bowers totaled six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

FSU will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 24) as the Bulldogs visit Davenport for a 1 p.m. (ET) GLIAC matchup in Caledonia.
