Bulldog Softball Earns Day Two Split At Lewis Dome Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team earned a day two split on Friday (Feb. 24) at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.

The Bulldogs opened the day with a 2-1 triumph in nine innings over Truman State (Mo.) in regional play before falling to Winona State (Minn.) 7-0 in late night action.

In the opener, Truman State jumped in front first with a run in the second, but the Bulldogs answered with a run in the top of the fourth. The score stood until the ninth when FSU got the go-ahead run on an RBI single from senior Kylie Winkels. From there, the Bulldogs kept TSU off the board in the bottom of the frame to garner the win. Truman State finished with eight hits to six for FSU, which did not have an error in the field.

The Bulldogs got a standout pitching performance from Aryn Gallacher, who tossed all nine innings and allowed only a single run on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Right fielder Abby Meyer tallied three hits for the Bulldogs in a three-for-four performance while Winkels had two hits. Both Winkels and shortstop Amara Zukowski drove in runs for FSU. Additionally, Winkels posted two stolen bases as did Meyer.

In the finale, the Bulldogs were held to a single hit from first baseman Kaitlyn Orme in the shutout setback. Winona State posted 10 hits overall. The Warriors had a single run in the first before adding four in the second. From there, they were limited to just a single run in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bulldogs' combination of Krsitie Gray, Catherine O'Donohue and Mauri Viness combined to allow six earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Viness allowed only one run and three hits in pitching three full innings while Donohue gave up no earned runs with two K's in two and two-thirds innings of work.

The Bulldogs will close out the Lewis Dome Invite on Saturday (Feb. 25) against Walsh at 7 p.m. (ET).
