Bulldog Softball Battles To GLIAC Road Split At Saginaw Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team opened up a final four-game road swing to close the regular-season on Saturday (April 29), earning a split against Saginaw Valley State in University Center.

The Bulldogs claimed a 4-2 win in the opener before falling by a close 5-4 decision in the nightcap. Overall, FSU has won three of its last four contests and five of the past eight overall.

After sweeping Wayne State at home on Friday, the Bulldogs pushed their win streak to three-straight with a triumph in game one. The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0, but scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to claim the win. Overall, FSU produced seven hits to four for the Cardinals.

The trio of Catherine O'Donohue, Kylie Winkels and Jadyn Joseph all had two hits apiece for FSU. Both Josie Prince and Amara Zukowski joined Joseph in driving in a run.

The Bulldogs' Mauri Viness got the win, throwing four innings and allowing a single earned run with two strikeouts and two hits. McKenzie Cleland hurled three innings of work and also allowed only one earned run on two hits to go with three strikeouts and a single walk.

In game two, the Bulldogs built a 4-0 lead in the top of the fifth, but the Cardinals answered with three runs in the bottom and two more in the sixth to pull out the win. Both teams finished with seven hits in the game.

Joseph and Zukowski both paced FSU with two hits in game two. Both Joseph and Brooklyn Verbeek homered for FSU and four different hitters drove in a run. FSU also stole three bases.

FSU's Aryn Gallacher tossed five innings in the circle and allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk. O'Donohue pitched one inning and did not allow a hit or a run while walking two.

The Bulldogs close out regular-season action on Sunday (April 30) with a pair of rescheduled league matchups at rival Grand Valley State beginning at 2 p.m. (ET) in Allendale.
