Bulldog Women's Tennis Falls To Rival GVSU In GLIAC Tourney Semifinals
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad fell to rival Grand Valley State by a 4-0 score in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Semifinals on Saturday (April 27) at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
The third-seeded Lakers captured the first four completed points of the match to beat the second-seeded Bulldogs, who were in position to potentially win the other three matches still on the court in the highly-contested affair before the contest concluded.
With the setback, the Bulldogs will now await the official NCAA Division II Tournament selection announcement on May 6, but are expected to receive a tourney bid.
FSU had previously beat Grand Valley State 4-3 in a close regular-season matchup earlier this year. The Lakers advanced to the league final with the victory and will face top-seeded Wayne State on Sunday for the postseason crown.
The FSU women's team finished second behind Wayne State in GLIAC regular-season play this year and was back in the league tournament after missing the field a year ago. The Bulldogs are now 12-9 overall this campaign and were ranked among the top eight teams in the most recent NCAA D2 Midwest Regional Rankings.
Stay tuned for additional postseason information as it becomes available.
