Bulldogs Garner Second-Straight Split On Day Three In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second consecutive day, the Ferris State University softball squad recorded a split at The Spring Games in Florida as the Bulldogs wrapped up day three play on Tuesday (March 7).

Ferris State notched a 2-1 triumph over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in the opener before suffering a 3-2 setback in a tightly-contested second game against Kentucky Wesleyan.

The Bulldogs tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth after Trevecca Nazarene had scored the initial run of the morning affair in the top of the second in the opener. The score stood up as the two teams both finished with four hits apiece.

Ferris State's four hits in game one came off the sticks of first baseman Evelyn Blood, designated player Kaitlyn Orme, right fielder Kacey Bouche and second baseman Josie Prince, who drove in both runs for FSU.

The Bulldogs' Aryn Gallacher garnered the pitching win, throwing all seven innings and giving up a single run on four hits with a walk.

Prince singled up the middle in the fourth for the Bulldogs, scoring both Orme and Kylie Winkels in the victory.

In game two, Kentucky Wesleyan earned a walk-off win on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers tallied two runs in the first before the Bulldogs tied the game back up with a single run in the second and the fourth. Overall, KWC had nine hits to four for the Bulldogs.

Both Evelyn Blood and Catherine O'Donohue posted triples for the Bulldogs in the contest while Katelyn Gabos and Maddie Gkekas produced single hits. Prince drove in a run for the Bulldogs.

O'Donohue hurled six and two-thirds innings for Bulldogs, allowing one earned run on eight hits with five K's. McKenzie Cleland also pitched and allowed a single run on one hit.

The Bulldogs will be off on Wednesday before resuming play Thursday (March 9) with two more contests at The Spring Games. FSU will face St. Cloud State (Minn.) at 9 a.m. (ET) before taking on Concordia-St. Paul in an 11:30 a.m. (ET) tilt.
