Ferris State Opens GLIAC Play With Decisive Win Over GVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad ran its winning streak to five consecutive games as the Bulldogs opened Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a decisive 97-68 win over rival Grand Valley State on Thursday (Dec. 1) night inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs opened up a 48-34 halftime edge and outscored GVU 49-34 over the final 20 minutes of the game to improve to 5-2 overall the year. The Lakers fell to 3-5 with the setback.

FSU junior guard Ben Davidson had the hot hand, connecting on 10-of-12 field goals and six-of-seven three's overall while finishing with a game-high 29 points.

Along with Davidson, the Bulldogs had five other players also reach double-digits in the triumph. Ethan Erickson added 14 points while connecting on four three's for FSU. In addition, the Bulldogs' Deng Reng added 13 points with the duo of Ethan Erickson and Mykel Bingham adding 12 points apiece. Finally, Solomon Oraegbu and Vejas Grazulis chipped in with 11 points each.

The Bulldogs shot 55.1% from the floor and hit on 14-of-29 (48.3%) three's while holding the Lakers to only 35.8% shooting and a one-of-13 (7.7%) long range effort. FSU also owned a 44-38 rebounding edge and both teams finished with nine turnovers.

The Lakers were led by Jalen Charity with 12 points.

Ferris State, which is now 5-2 overall this year, will host Davenport on Sunday (Dec. 4) in GLIAC play with tipoff set for 3 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
