Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Ferris State Women's Basketball To Home Court Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - A huge fourth quarter lifted the Ferris State University women's basketball squad to a big Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win as the Bulldogs beat Purdue Northwest 84-77 on Thursday (Jan. 12) night inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs outscored the Pride 30-19 over the final 10 minutes of action and rallied back from an 11-point second half deficit to garner the win, improving to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.

Senior forward Chloe Idoni tallied 21 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the Bulldogs battled back after trailing by seven at halftime. FSU cut the margin to four points entering the final period before exploding for 30 points and shooting 65% from the floor in the final quarter.

Along with Idoni, senior guard Mallory McCartney tallied a near triple-double effort with 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in 38 minutes of action. Junior DeShonna Day also had a big day with 17 points and three steals. Meanwhile, Kenzie Bowers contributed nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes with freshman Mia Riley adding nine points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Bulldogs connected on 22-of-27 (81.5%) free throws in the win, including 16-of-19 in the second half. The Bulldogs finished shooting 48.3% from the floor and went six-of-13 (81.5%) beyond the three-point arc.

Defensively, Ferris State held Purdue Northwest to 44.1% shooting with the Pride going seven-of-20 (35%) from three-point land and 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the charity stripe.

Purdue Northwest, which fell to 5-12 overall and 1-6 in the GLIAC, was led by Dash Shaw with 19 points. Tadriana Heard sank four three's and added 16 points while Syria Butler contributed 12 points off the bench and Mercedes Simmons totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Ferris State finished with five steals and five blocked shots while turning the ball over only nine times in the game.

The Bulldogs will host Parkside in conference play on Saturday (Jan. 14) starting at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
