Ferris State Basketball Pulls Away From Talented Alumni Squad For Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad pulled away down the stretch for a 109-89 win over past Bulldog standouts in the annual Alumni Game played on Sunday (Oct. 29) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The alumni squad featured many of the Bulldogs' past stars from the last decade with the talented roster including eight members of FSU's 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship team along with several others who played key roles on league championship teams.

The alumni fought hard and jumped in front early before the current Bulldogs responded and took a double-digit lead in the opening half. However, the alums made a late first-half charge and were within a point, 49-48, at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs pulled away, outscoring the alums by a 60-41 count for the win.

Ferris State was led by senior Ben Davidson, who scored 20 points in the triumph. Fellow senior Dolapo Olayinka added 11 points while Jack Ammerman and Owen Hardy contributed 10 points each. A total of 16 players saw action on the FSU roster with 14 cracking the scoring column.

Meanwhile, the alumni squad was led by Quentin Ruff with a team-high 18 points, including four three's. National Champion Peter Firlik added 14 points with former teammate Markese Mayfield, who also started on FSU's national title team, adding 13 points. The alumni team also got 13 points from standout guard D'Angelo Hughes, another member of the title-winning team.

Overall, the alumni team had 13 players see action during the contest with other older veterans seeing action in a highly-competitive 10-minute scrimmage played before the game.

Ferris State will conclude its exhibition slate on Friday, Nov. 3, hosting Calvin University at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. (ET).
