Bulldog Volleyball Falls To Rival GVSU In League Road Contest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad fell to rival Grand Valley State by a 3-1 count on Friday (Nov. 3) evening at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.

The Bulldogs dropped the opening two frames by scores of 27-25 and 25-22 before responding with a 25-18 win in the third. However, the Lakers closed the door by beating FSU 25-21 in the fourth set to pull out the win and even the regular-season series between the two teams.

With the loss, Ferris State and Grand Valley State are now tied atop the league standings with identical 13-2 conference marks with three regular-season contests to go.

FSU was held to a .173 attack percentage in the setback, but did receive 20 kills from Olivia Henneman-Dallape to go with 10 by Claire Nowicki. Meanwhile, Syann Fairfield added eight kills.

Defensively, libero Leah Bylut tallied 20 digs for the Bulldogs with Nowicki chipping in 16 digs. Kaylee Maat finished with 41 assists and seven digs.

The Bulldogs finished with 68 total digs and had 10 block assists to go with seven service aces and a solo block. GVSU posted a .250 hitting figure and netted 80 digs with 20 block assists, six aces and three solo blocks, but did have 14 service mistakes.

The Lakers were paced by Sarah Wright with 14 kills. Both Kendall Stover and Kate Goudreau added 12 kills each while Julia Blaney finished with a team-high 19 digs. Jordyn Gates posted 30 assists and Rachel Jacquay had 22 assists.

Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 4) as the Bulldogs travel to Purdue Northwest for a 3 p.m. (ET) league encounter in Hammond, Ind.
