Ferris State Volleyball Wins Fourth Consecutive Match By Beating Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University's women's volleyball team emerged victorious in a match against Wayne State on Wednesday (Oct. 25) night, pulling out a 3-1 triumph at Bulldog Arena.

In the first set, Wayne State started strong, winning by a score of 25-20. However, Ferris State quickly turned the tables in the second set, winning with a score of 25-13. The Bulldogs maintained their momentum in the third and fourth sets, winning with scores of 25-15 and 25-17, respectively.

Wayne State struggled throughout the match, with a hitting percentage of just .137 for the night. Their performance was inconsistent, with their hitting percentages ranging from .371 in the first set to .000 in the third set. 

On the other hand, Ferris State displayed a more efficient and dominant performance, finishing the match with a hitting percentage of .316 overall. Olivia Henneman-Dallape led the team with 15 kills, followed by Chelsie Freeman with eight kills. Kaylee Maat played a crucial role as the team's setter, recording 37 assists. She also led FSU at the service line with six aces while Henneman-Dallape totaled four solo blocks and three assists.

Wayne State was led by Molly Miller with 19 kills, while Katie Smith contributed 10 kills.

Defensively, both teams had strong performances. Ferris State's Leah Bylut recorded 13 digs while Kenzy Corstange added 11 digs. Wayne State's Kayla Dulgar posted a team-high 10 digs in the setback for the Warriors.

Ferris State netted 50 kills overall with 50 digs, 11 total team blocks and eight aces. WSU finished with 46 kills, 51 digs, five aces and three team blocks. The Warriors also had 28 attack mistakes.

Overall, Ferris State improved to 20-4 overall and 13-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Wayne State's record dropped to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in the GLIAC.

FSU completed its four-match homestand with four consecutive league victories over a six-day span and the Bulldogs have now won 15 of their last 16 outings overall this year.

This year marks the 12th time in the last 13 years the Bulldogs have won 20 matches or more with the lone exception since 2011 being the COVID-shortened 2020-21 spring season. It also represents the 32nd time in program history the Bulldogs have topped the 20-win plateau and the 21st time FSU has done so under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.

The Bulldogs will play a single road match this weekend, traveling to Parkside on Friday, Oct. 27, for a 7 p.m. (ET) tilt in Kenosha, Wis.
