Ferris State Notches First Conference Win To Close Out Weekend Action At Home

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad registered a 67-55 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home win over Davenport on Sunday (Dec. 4), improving to 6-1 this year with the victory inside Jim Wink Arena.

The nation's 20th-ranked Bulldogs built a 13-point second period lead and thwarted Davenport's rally by overcoming foul trouble in the second half to hold off the Panthers.

Senior forward Chloe Idoni tallied 15 points in leading the Bulldogs despite playing only 16 minutes due to foul issues in the contest. Sophomore Kenzie Bowers added 13 points overall.

The Bulldogs got key contributions off the bench throughout the lineup with freshman Mia Riley scoring 12 points for FSU. Amaka Unobagha added seven points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Meanwhile, senior starting guard Mallory McCartney finished with seven points, six assists and three steals while Bowers pulled down a team-leading seven boards and also notched three steals.

Ferris State converted at a 43% clip for the day and made seven-of-17 (41.2%) long range tries in addition to 16-of-21 (76.2%) free throws.

On the other end of the floor, the Bulldogs limited DU to only 31% shooting with the Panthers hitting only five-of-25 (20%) three's. They did make 18-of-28 (64.3%) free throws in a game that featured a total of 44 fouls with 22 on each side.

The Panthers were led by Ellie Toney's team-high 13 points and Scout Nelson chipped in with 11 points, but those were the only DU players to reach double-figure scoring.

Ferris State held a 38-36 rebounding edge and came up with 13 second-chance points on 11 offensive boards. FSU also had 13 steals in the win and outscored DU 15-3 on the offensive glass.

The Bulldogs, who are now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC, will visit Northern Michigan on Friday (Dec. 9) for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) league encounter in Marquette. Ferris State then heads to Houghton to face Michigan Tech on Sunday (Dec. 11) starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
