Ferris State Earns Big Home Win Over GLIAC Leader Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad got back on track in a big way, beating Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) leader Michigan Tech 63-60 on Thursday (Jan. 26) night inside Jim Wink Arena.

Senior forward Chloe Idoni sparked the Bulldogs to the big home win, totaling a game-high 34 points to go with 10 rebounds in a double-double showing.

The Bulldogs opened up a one-point lead after the opening quarter and held an eight-point lead at the break before eventually pushing the margin to as many as 12 points in the final minute of the third quarter. MTU tied the game up late, but the Bulldogs answered and earned the win.

Ferris State shot 38% for the game and went 19-of-26 (73.1%) at the free throw line compared to 33.9% shooting for MTU with the Huskies finishing a perfect 12-of-12 (100%) at the stripe. Michigan Tech made eight-of-25 (32%) three's with FSU finishing six-of-17 (35.3%) from long range.

Along with Idoni, the Bulldogs got seven points each from senior guard Mallory McCartney along with sophomores Kenzie Bowers and Grace Sullivan. McCartney added eight asissts and five boards while Bowers totaled eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Ferris State and Michigan Tech both finished with 36 rebounds and FSU had 16 turnovers compared to 13 for the Huskies. However, FSU outscored Michigan Tech 22-16 inside the paint and 9-6 on the break in the game, which featured nine lead changes and was tied three times.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 12-7 overall and evened its GLIAC mark at 5-5 on the year. The Huskies, who were coming off a home win over top-five ranked Grand Valley State, dropped to 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the GLIAC.

Isabella Lenz paced Michigan Tech with 19 points and Ellie Mackay added 15 points in the setback.
