Bulldog Softball Claims First Sweep At The Spring Games In Florida

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team registered its first sweep of its annual spring break trip to Florida as the Bulldogs pulled out a pair of Friday (March 10) wins at The Spring Games.

The Bulldogs topped West Virginia Wesleyan 6-1 in the opener before recording a 7-4 triumph over Cedarville in the nightcap.

In game one, Ferris State produced eight hits and limited West Virginia Wesleyan to only two in garnering the victory. The Bulldogs put two runs on the board in the second and added one more in the fifth and three in the seventh to account for the margin.

The Bulldogs got multiple hit games from both Jadyn Joseph and Kylie Winkels as each finished with two. Second baseman Josie Prince drove in two runs while Brooklyn Verbeek drew two walks at the plate. Winkels doubled in the win.

FSU's Catherine O'Donohue hurled five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two while giving up a single earned run on two hits. Kristie Gray notched the save after tossing one and two-thirds innings of scoreless and hitless work.

Despite being outhit 11-7 in game two, the Bulldogs put seven runs on the board and limited Cedarville to only four in a second-straight win on the day. FSU scored four runs in the second and added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth.

The Bulldogs' seven total hits included two from Winkels. Prince again had two RBI's and both Winkles and Evelyn Blood scored twice for FSU. In the triumph, Winkels homered and Blood doubled for Ferris State.

FSU's Aryn Gallacher notched the win, tossing four innings and allowing only two earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout. Kristie Gray pitched one innings, giving up two runs on three hits before O'Donohue came on for the save after allowing no runs on a single hit in two innings of action.

Ferris State has now won three consecutive games and five of its last seven overall. FSU wraps up action at The Spring Games with its final two contests on Saturday (March 11), facing Walsh in regional play at 11 a.m. (ET) and Felician at 3 p.m. (ET).
