Ferris State Caps Weekend Sweep With Exciting Win At Lake Superior State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad stayed unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play as the four-time defending league champions beat Lake Superior State 4-3 on Sunday (March 24) in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs capped off a weekend sweep in Michigan's Upper Peninsula by beating LSSU in a thriller only a day after the Lakers had knocked off Grand Valley State at home.

The win came on a different surface at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center where traditionally the Lakers have had an advantage inside at home.

Ferris State took the doubles point as the Bulldogs picked up a 6-4 win at the number one flight along with a 6-3 decision at the two spot to claim two of the three positions.

In singles play, the Lakers got two-set wins at the first, fourth and sixth flights to draw even with the Bulldogs after FSU won at two and three singles. The match came down to the fifth flight where Ferris State's Mathis Guerre pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 decision to clinch the victory.

FSU improved to 4-8 overall this season with the win and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs will play their league home opener on Friday (March 29) against longtime conference rival Northwood starting at 4 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
