Ferris State Softball Sweeps Wayne State On Senior Day In Final Home Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team posted a Senior Day sweep over Wayne State on Friday (April 28) in the final two home games of the regular-season for the Bulldogs at the FSU Softball Field.

Ferris State took the opening game by an 8-5 score and rallied for a 6-5 win in game two, evening FSU's GLIAC record at 10-10 on the year.

In the opener, the Bulldogs put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead, adding two more in the third and insurance runs in the fifth and sixth en route to the win. FSU pounded out 13 hits in the triumph.

Senior Kylie Winkels paced the Bulldogs with three hits in the victory while Catherine O'Donohue, Amara Zukowski and Kaitlyn Fick all had two hits. Fick, who both tripled and doubled, produced four RBI's for the Bulldogs and Winkels scored three times and had a triple as well.

In the circle, Aryn Gallacher tossed four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on six hits. O'Donohue hurled two and one-third innings of scoreless action in relief, allowing only a pair of hits.

Ferris State came back in game two with a strong finish, rallying back from a 5-0 deficit to earn the win, finishing with four runs in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap. The Bulldogs were outhit 12-7 overall.

Second baseman Josie Prince had two hits for FSU while outfielder Jadyn Joseph drove in two runs for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs utilized a combination of four different pitchers in the circle with the group giving up 12 hits and five runs overall in the win.

Ferris State celebrated its senior class following the final home games of their Bulldog careers.

The Bulldogs will visit Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (April 29) for a league afternoon doubleheader in University Center before closing out regular-season play on the road Sunday (April 30) with a pair of rescheduled matchups versus rival Grand Valley State in Allendale.
