Ferris State Softball Sweeps Davenport In Strong GLIAC Road Performance

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team stretched its winning streak to three consecutive games and earned a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road sweep on Saturday (April 15), beating Davenport in a doubleheader in Caledonia.

The Bulldogs pulled out a 4-2 in the opener and closed out the sweep with a 9-1 victory in five innings in the nightcap in a strong afternoon performance.

In the opening game, the Bulldogs put a run on the board in each of the first four innings of the contest while producing nine hits and limiting the Panthers to only three hits and a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.

FSU's Aryn Gallacher had a big showing in the circle, pitching all seven innings and giving up only a single earned run on three hits. She struck out four and walked two in earning her eighth victory of the year.

Seniors Kaitlyn Orme and Evelyn Blood along with shortstop Kacey Bouche each had two hits for the Bulldogs in the game. Both Orme and third baseman Brooklyn Verbeek posted triples while senior Kylie Winkels doubled in the game. Verbeek, catcher Natalie Teague and designated player Catherine O'Donohue all drove in a run.

The triple for Orme increased her all-time school career record total to 21 triples as a Bulldog.

The Bulldogs continued their strong play in game two, exploding for three runs in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth to put the game away. FSU pounded out 10 hits and limited DU to only five hits and a single run in the second.

O'Donohue pitched three innings and claimed the win, allowing no earned runs on four hits with a single walk and strikeout. Kristie Gray tossed two innings of scoreless action with a single hit allowed.

Blood, Verbeek and catcher Kaitlyn Fick all drove in two runs for the Bulldogs while Blood, Fick and outfielder Jadyn Joseph all generated two hits each. Verbeek also scored twice and doubled while Bouche added a double in the win.

Ferris State is slated to host rival Grand Valley State on Sunday (April 16) at the FSU Softball Field. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. (ET) with game two to follow at approximately 3 p.m. (ET).
