Ferris State Rolls Past Grace Christian In Decisive Victory To Stay Unbeaten

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad rolled to a 104-45 win over visiting Grace Christian on Saturday (Nov. 26) night as the Bulldogs returned from the Thanksgiving break and didn't skip a beat, moving to a perfect 5-0 overall.

Ferris State shot 55.1% from the floor and dominated on the glass while holding the Tigers to only 22.8% shooting overall in the triumph. FSU also shared the ball well with 30 assists in the contest and outscored Grace Christian 41-9 on the break and 62-14 inside the paint in the decisive win.

FSU jumped out in from 26-8 at the end of the opening stanza and produced 56 points in the first half. The lead grew to as many as 61 points with five minutes left.

Five Bulldog players reached double-figure scoring and all 11 players in uniform played at least 14 minutes and scored. Senior forward Chloe Idoni tallied 16 points for FSU while the trio to Elle Irwin, DeShonna Day and Emma Schierbeek all totaled 15 points each. Grace Sullivan chipped in with 12 points.

Ferris State connected on 11-of-27 (40.7%) three's and made seven-of-nine free throws (77.8%) in the game. FSU also totaled 14 steals and blocked eight shots in a strong defensive performance, which held the Tigers to only a three-of-17 (17.6%) long range figure. Grace made only one of its first 14 field goals in the opening quarter, shooting 7.1% in the opening 10 minutes of the game.

On the glass, Ferris State posted a 56-30 advantage and FSU came down with 17 offensive caroms, leading to a 20-6 margin in second chance production. The Bulldogs also outscored Grace 27-15 in points off turnovers.

In addition to her 15 points, Irwin led FSU with nine rebounds and came up with four assists, three steals and three blocks in an impressive all-around effort. Day pulled down six boards while Ariel Jenkins finished with eight rebounds in addition to scoring nine points.

Along with her 12 points, Sullivan dished seven assists and senior guard Mallory McCartney added six helpers.

The Tigers were led by Jada Reese with 11 points as they dropped to 1-3 overall.

Ferris State will open GLIAC play at home versus nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State on Thursday, Dec. 1, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
