RECAP: Northwood baseball moves to 5-0 on the season with a pair of wins at Purdue Northwest Saturday (February 25), taking game one 4-3 before earning a dramatic 9-8 victory in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Purdue Northwest got the scoring going in the bottom of the second with a single run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Northwood took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs, starting with a Caden Duryea RBI double.
  • Duryea then scored on an RBI single to give NU a 2-1 lead.
  • Myles Beale made the score 4-1 in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer.
  • The Pride got two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within one at 4-3.
  • NU starter Derek Clark shut the door on the Pride the remainder of the way, holding PNW off the board to earn the complete game.

  • The game was scoreless in the top of the third inning when Beale continued his big day. His RBI single gave Northwood a 1-0 advantage.
  • Blake Salamon made it 2-0 later in the third on an RBI single.
  • Northwood scored a pair in the fourth, starting with an RBI double from Jacob Rybicki.
  • Matt Magno then had a sacrifice fly that scored Rybicki from second base that made the score 4-0.
  • In the fifth, the Timberwolves scored a pair of runs for the third straight inning, scoring on an error and a while pitch to push the lead to 6-0.
  • PNW got two back in the bottom of the fifth to send the game to the sixth with Northwood leading 6-2.
  • Rhett Evans broke the game open in the top of the sixth with a 3-run homer to get the NU lead to seven at 9-2.
  • The Pride put together a big rally in the ninth give themselves a chance, scoring six runs to get within one before NU closed out the victory.
