RECAP: Northwood baseball goes 1-1 on its final day at Purdue Northwest Sunday (February 26), with PNW taking game one 6-4 before NU took the nightcap 13-2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • The Pride got on the board first on a passed ball and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead after one inning.
  • Northwood responded right away in the top of the second thanks to Blake Salamon. His two-run homer to right center tied the score at 2-2.
  • A pair of NU errors in the fourth inning allowed PNW to bring home a pair of runs to take a 4-2 lead.
  • After the Pride made it 5-2 in the fifth, the Timberwolves fought back with two runs in the sixth. Jacoby Rybicki came home on a wild pitch, which was followed by a Rhett Evans sacrifice fly to get the Timberwolves within one at 5-4.
  • Purdue Northwest plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to get their lead back to two.
  • The Timberwolves got the first two batters of the final inning on base but were unable to score, giving PNW their first win of the season.

  • Northwood got on the board three batters into the game of the nightcap thanks to an RBI single from Matt Magno to make the score 1-0.
  • The Timberwolves extended their advantage in the fourth, starting with a Caden Duryea RBI single.
  • David Jeffers followed with an RBI double and then came home on a Myles Beale RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.
  • PNW responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-2.
  • Salamon continued his big day in the top of the fifth with a solo home run to get the lead back up to 5-2.
  • Later in the fifth, Duryea earned his second RBI of the day on a groundout, making the score 6-2.
  • The Timberwolves broke the game open in the top of the eighth. The big inning got going with a Rhett Evans two-run double that gave the Timberwolves a six run lead.
  • Salamon earned his fourth RBI of the day on a groundout that made the score 9-2.
  • Duryea brought home to more with an run-scoring single, giving him four RBIs for the game.
  • Jeffers capped the six-run inning with an RBI groundout that gave the Timberwolves a 10-run lead.
  • EJ Clark came through in the ninth inning with a pinch-hit RBI single that made the final score 13-2.
