Dragons split with Davenport in Doubleheader

The Tiffin University baseball team (3-3) split their doubleheader against non-conference opponent Davenport.

Game One:
Tiffin got its first run in the second inning. A Tim Orr double was followed by an RBI double by Cal Brazier.

In the fifth inning, a TJ Truso double knocked home Isaiah Mirabal and Tommy Thamann to bring TU to within 5-3, but two Davenport runs in the sixth inning pushed their lead back up to four runs. TU had the bases loaded in the sixth and also two runners on in the seventh but could generate no more runs. 

Griffin Stevens and Cal Brazier led the team as they went 2-for-4 at the plate. TJ Truso went a double and 2 RBI, while Tim Orr and Brazier also had doubles. 

Gunnar Boehm took the loss as he pitched 4.1 innings, and allowed five hits, four earned runs, and four walks.  

Game Two:
Tiffin got the offense rolling early in the second game, scoring three runs in the top of the first off two hits, two wild pitches, and one error. Tiffin then scored five runs in the top of the second as Griffin Stevens hit a triple with the bases loaded to score three runs, then Ricky Havrilla singled with the bases loaded to score a run giving the Dragons a 5-0 lead.

Davenport scored four unanswered runs with two in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and one in the fourth to cut Tiffin's lead to 8-4.

The Dragons responded with four runs in the top of the fifth. Cal Brazier hit a double to center field to score the runners on first and second. Two batters were walked with the bases loaded to extend Tiffin's lead to 12-4.

The Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down to 12-8. Davenport scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Dragons' lead down to 12-11.

Fairbother closed the door on the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win for TU.

Griffin Stevens went 3-for-3 in the game, scored three runs, and had three RBI, Cal Brazier went 1-for-3, scored two runs, and recorded two RBI, and Ricky Havrilla went 1-for-3 and tallied three RBI.

Kyler Archual registered the win as he pitched four innings, allowing four runs off seven hits, and struck out two.
