Ferris State Drops Tight Decision At Findlay In Regional Women's Tennis Competition

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team took host Findlay to the wire, but came up short in a close 4-3 regional road setback on Saturday (Feb. 12) in Ohio.

The Oilers fought back after FSU took the early lead by winning the doubles point and captured four of the six singles positions, including the top two spots, to record the win at the YMCA East Courts in Findlay.

"Our women's team played hard, but came up just short," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "We started out by continuing our great play in doubles, but couldn't pull it out in singles.

"Freshman Parker Nolan came out strong right away in singles and earned an impressive win," he added.

Nolan was a straight-set winner at three singles for the Bulldogs with Brittany Lavenant garnering a three-set triumph at the fourth flight. The Oilers managed to pull out a three-set triumph at the first flight and also captured straight-set triumphs at two, five and six singles.

In the doubles round, the Bulldogs suffered a 7-5 decision at the top flight, but picked up the point with wins at two and three doubles. Nolan and Agata Klak paired up for a 6-3 win at the second spot with Patricia Martin Gomez and Lavenant earning a 6-3 victory at three doubles.

Ferris State will visit Hillsdale on Sunday (Feb. 13) as FSU continues regional road competition with match time set for 10 a.m. (ET) in Tiffin, Ohio.
