The Northwood University men's soccer team earned a comeback 2-1 win over Lake Erie Friday night (October 5).
Northwood is now 5-3-1 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie falls to 2-9 overall, 1-7 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves controlled the play for the most part in the first half, but the Storm would take the lead in the 40th minute off a turnover. Northwood held a 10-3 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks in the half.
The score remained 1-0 until the 74th minute when freshman Sam Nair (London, England/Nower Hill) took over. He beat the keeper with a shot off a rebound at 73:03 to even the score 1-1. Less than eight minutes later, Nair scored what proved to be the game winner. He chipped a well-placed ball from Michtell Brent (Milton Keynes, England) over the keeper from a tough angle to make the score 2-1. It was Nair's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
For the match, Northwood finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners.
