Timberwolves Bite Oilers in Overtime

The University of Findlay women's basketball team suffered an 83-73 loss in overtime to Northwood University on Dec. 4 in Croy Gymnasium. The loss gives the Oilers a 3-1 record on the season with a 0-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The two teams battled to a 63-63 tie at the end of regulation, but the Timberwolves owned the overtime period as they opened the extra session on an 11-1 run in the first two minutes. When the buzzer sounded, Northwood had out-scored the Oilers by a 20-10 margin in the five minute period to suffer their first loss of the year.

The Oilers shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the floor in the game while the Timberwolves made 41 percent (25-of-61) of their shot attempts. Northwood held a 46-29 advantage on the boards and also connected on 26-of-30 (86.7%) of their attempts from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Nikki Gunning paced the Oilers with a career-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She made three triples and also hit all three of her free throw attempts in the game.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger also reached double figures with 13 points to go along with four rebounds.

Senior guard Kristin Klausing added nine points while junior forward Margaret Wuebker and senior forward Lacey Kessler chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.

The Timerberwolves were led by led by Lauren Robak's 34 points.

The Oilers will host Lake Superior State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
