Oilers Drop A Pair vs. Walsh

The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to North Canton, Ohio for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup with the Cavaliers of Walsh University on April 5th and 6th. The Oilers dropped the first game of the series 6-2 then lost in the nightcap by the same margin, this time by a 4-0 final. The losses drop Findlay's record to 8-15 overall and 5-8 in GLIAC play.
Game 1:
The home team proved to be too much for Findlay in the first game as the Oilers offense struggled against Walsh starter Matt Iosue.
Findlay sent out senior Drew Hargrove to toe the slab and he threw up zeros in the first three innings of play, but the Cavaliers offense finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four runs on five hits. They added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on two hits.
Findlay would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh inning. Chase Goulette, with one out, singled to right field and was followed by a Jordan Garcia double. Austin Adams then sent a fly ball to left field, scoring Goulette on the sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Derek Draper reached on an error by the third baseman. The play allowed Garcia to score, but that was all the offense the Oilers could muster as the game ended with the home team on top 6-2.
Hargrove went the distance and allowed six runs, five earned, on 11 hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Reid Rothebuhler led the offense as he collected a pair of hits in the loss.
Game 2:
As in the first game, the Oilers struggled to get the key hit when they needed it, stranding eight runners.
Walsh jumped out to an early lead as the score single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings.
Findlay had a good opportunity to score in the first as Garcia led off the game with a single and two hitters later, Draper singled as well. With two outs though, the visitors were not able to get the big hit as two runners were left on base.
The Cavaliers doubled their lead in the fourth as they score two runs on three hits. The runs were the last of the day for either squad.
A.J. Cecil went all seven innings for the Oilers and took the loss as he allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits. He struck out three.
Garcia and Draper each picked up a pair of hits in the loss.
The series will conclude tomorrow afternoon with a single game beginning at 1:30pm.
