TU drops Cavaliers 7-2

Tiffin University's Women's Tennis Team has proven themselves to be one of the top teams in the region. Saturday, however, the Lady Dragons took a bit of a scare early on before buckling down and defeating the Walsh Cavaliers 7-2.

TU started off quite sluggishly as they dropped 2 of the first 3 doubles matches. The lone victorious doubles team was the pairing of Musina and Sim who defeated Ambrosio and Laguna-Leon convincingly 8-1. Musina and Sim have certainly had their ups and downs this year with the duo unable to compete in the ITA regional tournament due to an injury to Musina. The pairing came out strong to give TU their only doubles win. The shocking loss was Nelhage and Kaye as they dropped a 6-8 decision to Sofya Logunova/Mercedes Fernanez. TU's other loss was Bianca Avram/Rachelmary Brozovich as they dropped a 4-8 decision to Daria Bondareva/Snezhana Kiselev.

Heading into singles Coach Conley and the team had their work cut out for them with Walsh gunning for an upset victory, but the Dragons wouldn't have any of it. TU went on to sweep all 6 singles spots to go from 1-2 down to a 7-2 final match score. TU dominated in all but two matches as the only close matches in singles were 2nd and 6th singles. Nelhage opened the action with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Sofya Logunova. Musina dominated in the first set before falling behind early and not able to dig herself out in the second set. Musina came roaring back to take a 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 victory over Mercedes Fernanez. Emily Sim continued the attack with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Daria Bondareva. The freshman Sim has been everything this TU lineup has needed with players banged up across the board. Veteran Bianca Avram came through for the Dragons with a solid 6-1, 6-3 victory over Victoria Ambrosio while Aimee Kaye defeated Gabriela Laguna-Leon 6-0, 6-2. Andrea Alaniz picked up a victory for TU with a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Snezhana Kiseleva to give the Dragons the sweep in doubles.

TU will be back in action on Sunday October 2nd as they travel to Ashland to take on the Eagles in a 1 pm start.
