Tigers Dispatch Findlay To Remain Unbeaten In Match Play

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's tennis team improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season with a win over NCAA Division II Findlay at the Springfield Racquet Club on Saturday. 

The Tigers got off to a good start with 2-of-3 in the doubles portion of the dual match, led by the No. 2 team of seniorJayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and juniorJackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) in an 8-3 victory.

Freshman Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) and freshmanEmma Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./Vigo) picked up an 8-5 victory in the third spot, while juniors Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) dropped an 8-5 decision at No. 1.

In singles competition, the Tigers were anchored by wins by Miely at No. 2 (6-4, 6-3), Stewart at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2), Stevens at No. 5 (6-4, 6-0) and senior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2).

In No. 1 singles, Miller was close to victory at 6-3, 6-4, and Beauch fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

The Tigers resume their spring schedule in South Carolina on Monday, March 7, in a Spring Break match versus Mount St. Mary at 9 a.m.
