Tigers Drop 3-2 Decision To Findlay

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's tennis team fell by a final score of 8-1 hosting NCAA Division II Findlay at the Springfield Racquet Club on Saturday. The Tigers are now 3-2 on the season.

The Tigers were winless in the doubles portion and picked up one win in singles, thanks to freshman Sam Wilke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), who was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5.

Wilke and freshman Jonathan Mueller (Bexley, Ohio/Hartley) dropped an 8-1 decision in third doubles, while senior Bobby Fisher (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) and freshman Tyler Strong (Louisville, Ky./DuPoint Manual) were close to a win at No. 2 with a 9-7 final.

Senior Rob Lehner (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) and freshman Joseph Marra (Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls) rounded out the doubles portion with an 8-3 loss at No. 1. Marra went on to drop a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles, while Mueller went down fighting with a 6-2, 7-5 final at No. 6.

Fisher and Strong fell at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2) and No. 2 (6-4, 6-1), respectively. Sophomore Sergio Fishkin (Minsk, Belarus) lost a 6-4, 6-4 matchup at No. 3.

The Tigers resume their spring schedule with a Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., where they will start against Defiance at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 7.
