Men's Soccer Opens Season With 0-0 Draw At Wisconsin-Parkside

The Northwood Timberwolves men's soccer team opened its season with a 0-0 draw at Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday afternoon (Aug. 30).

The contest was the season-opener for both teams and the first event of the season for Northwood Athletics.

The first half was a defensive battle, as the two teams combined for nine shots (four on goal) and one corner. Northwood kept the game scoreless despite going a man down in the 31st minute.

In the second half, neither team got much going offensively once again. There were eight shots in the final 45 minutes, with just two of them ending up on net.

Northwood had more of the chances in overtime, out-shooting the Rangers 6-3 and finishing with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks in extra time.

For the match, Northwood held a 15-11 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark) earned a clean sheet in his first career appearance. He made three saves for the Timberwolves.

Northwood returns to action September 9 against Saginaw Valley State. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
