Wildcats Better Oilers 81-74
The University of Findlay men's basketball team lost their third straight game, 81-74 against Northern Michigan University on Dec. 13 in Marquette, Mich. The loss gives the Oilers a 2-4 record on the season with a 1-3 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Oilers trailed by ten points at 64-54 with just under five minutes to play, but clawed back to within two at 76-74 when senior forward Jake Heagen drilled a three pointer with only 20 ticks remaining. The Wildcats hit their free throws down the stretch however to pull out the victory.
Findlay shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor and canned 9-of-19 (47.4%) shot attempts from three point range. In comparison, Northern Michigan hit 56.6 percent (30-of-53) of their field goal attempts and drained 9-of-13 (69.2%) tries from long range in the game.
Junior guard Dylan Kaufman paced the Oilers with a season-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He hit 5-of-6 shot attempts from three point land and also added seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Heagen had 16 points, three rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Ricardo Smith and junior forward John Staley had eight points apiece.
Sophomore forward Tyler Stern-Tucker had seven points and three boards while sophomore center Quaran Jones chipped in five points and three rebounds in the loss.
Marcus Hall led four Northern Michigan players in double figures with 17 points.
The Oilers will now return home to take on Wheeling Jesuit University in a non-conference contest on Dec. 16. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
