Oilers Split With Chargers
The University of Findlay baseball team split a doubleheader with Hillsdale College on Friday, April 6 at Fifth Third Field in Findlay, Ohio. The split gives the Oilers a 9-16 record on the season with a 4-10 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Oilers won the first game of the twin bill by a 3-0 margin as Preston Zachrich went the distance allowing only two hits. He also struck out seven and walked only two to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Riley Christian went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. He also stole two bases in the victory.
Tommy Roush also plated a run with a single to right in the bottom of the third inning.
In the second game, Roush drove home Blake Schmenk with a double in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. After Hillsdale scored a run in the fifth, Roush again came up big with a two-run double to left that plated Schmenk and Dustin Zielaskiewicz.
Leading 3-2 in the seventh, Alex Williams allowed three runs to take the loss and fall to 0-2 on the year.
Darrell Thobe started the game and allowed two runs, only one earned, in five innings of work.
Roush went 2-for-3 with three runs-batted-in while Zielaskiewicz, Schmenk and Victor Migliore each recorded two hits apiece.
The Oilers and Chargers will play two more games again tomorrow beginning at noon.
