Softball Falls In Opening Round Of GLIAC Tournament To Purdue Northwest, 9-4

SCORES: Northwood 4, Purdue Northwest 9

RECORDS: Northwood 29-14, Purdue Northwest 27-16

LOCATION: Sports Force Complex – Sandusky, Ohio

RECAP: The Timberwolves softball team was in Sandusky, Ohio to play as the No. 4 seed in the GLIAC conference tournament. After postponing all games Friday (May 6) and making the tournament single-elimination, Northwood would fall to Purdue Northwest on Saturday morning in the opening round, 9-4. 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:

• Northwood would be the first to scratch a run across in the first. Alexis Koehler and Emily Mankel would get aboard via a singe and a walk. Delanie Grundman would finish it with a single to right-center to score Koehler, 1-0 NU.
• The Timberwolves would have trouble finding the strike zone in the second. The Pride would walk the bases loaded and a double to the left-center gap would clear the bases, 3-1 PNW.
• PNW would add another via a wild pitch later in the second, 4-1 PNW.
• In the bottom half of the second, NU would cut into the deficit with a triple down the right-field line by Mankel that would score Koehler and Karlie Moore, 4-3 PNW.
• The Pride added an inside the park home run in the fifth, 5-3 PNW.
• Later in the sixth, a fielding error would cost the Timberwolves another run, 6-3 PNW.
• The game would eventually become out of reach when Purdue would tack on three more in the seventh. With two outs in the seventh, the Pride would score twice on wild pitches and once more on a bases-loaded walk, 9-3 PNW.
• The Timberwolves would try and mount a comeback but would only manage an RBI groundout from Grundman to score Mankel, 9-4 PNW.
