Cardinals win Florida opener, fall to SEU on Saturday

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team traveled to Southeastern University (No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA) for a single 9-inning contest Saturday morning in Lakeland, Fla.

The Cardinals fell for the first time this season, as Southeastern took the contest 14-0. The loss drops SVSU to 2-1 overall to start 2021.

NOTES: The contest was originally scheduled to start at 1 pm, but due to impending bad weather, the start time was moved up to 9 am. SVSU won its Florida trip opener against Trinity Baptist College 11-3 on Friday. Statistics for the game against TBC have not yet been reported.

The Cardinals finished with three hits in the contest, with one each for Hayden Jatczak, Jaccar Watkins, and Andrew Burke. Ian Janssen (0-1) took the loss on the mound for SVSU, getting the start and tossing five innings.

SVSU continues play at the RussMatt Invitational against Dordt College at 3 PM Monday in Auburndale, Fla.
