Babon, Strong score in 2-0 win for SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team earned its second home victory of the weekend, shutting out Purdue Northwest in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Sunday at the SVSU IM Field.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead into the break and scored an insurance goal early in the second half to top the Pride 2-0. The win pushes SVSU to 5-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the GLIAC.

Senior Amy Babon netted her first goal of the season, on an assist from Larissa Barnett in the 30th minute to put SVSU on the board first.

Stephanie Strong, the reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year, has been heating up on the offense in recent weeks. She doubled the Cardinal lead in the 56th minute on her fourth of the year, with Sarah Fredrick earning the assist.

The Pride were never able to get going, managing just three shots compared to 22 for the Cardinals. Lainey Garbarz made one save in net for SVSU to earn the save.

The Cardinals look to keep rolling with a tough road matchup at Ferris State University at 1 pm on Friday in Big Rapids, Mich.
