Cardinals headed to USI to open Midwest Regional

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – With the team's Great Lakes Tournament championship on Sunday, the Saginaw Valley State University softball team punched its ticket to the 2022 NCAA DII National Tournament for the first time since 2018.

The NCAA DII Softball Selection Show announced Monday morning that SVSU will be the No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region. The Cardinals (34-18) will take on the No. 1 seed and host of the four-team pod, the University of Southern Indiana at 3:30 pm EST on Thursday in Evansville, Ind.

The four-team pod, which also includes No. 4 Lindenwood University and No. 5 Drury University, will play a double-elimination tournament Thursday through Saturday at the USI Softball Field.

On the other side of the Midwest Regional bracket, No. 2 University of Indianapolis will host No. 3 Grand Valley State University, No. 6 Ohio Dominican University, and No. 7 University of Findlay. The winners of each of the four-team pods will play a Super Regional series next week with an opportunity to go to the College Softball World Series on the line.
