Ft. WAYNE, Ind. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team traveled to Indiana Tech for the team's first road match of the season Friday in Ft. Wayne, Ind.

The Cardinals fell to the Warriors 7-0, dropping to 0-3 overall this season.

From Head Coach Ryan Ruzziconi:

"Overall, we played well. I would say this was our best match of the young season. Almost every match was close in both doubles and singles. We are a young team still learning how to finish off matches and win. Played good against a tough team."

Highlights:

  • Adiya Young and Gyselle Gutierrez took the No. 3 double contest to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (2) for the Cardinals.
  • Chelsea Dzenga split the first two sets at No. 2 singles, falling in the tiebreaking third set, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 (TB).
  • Emma Charlton had a close match at No. 4 singles dropping the contest 7-6 (0), 6-4.

The Cardinals continue the 2021 non-conference season on the road against the University of Findlay at 1 pm, Saturday, March 6.
