Cardinals fall 5-4 to Blue Devils at Comerica

DETROIT - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team hosted Lawrence Tech for a single game Wednesday at the home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park in Detroit.

LTU took a 4-2 lead in the third inning and held on the rest of the way to top SVSU 5-4, dropping the Cardinals to 7-6 overall this season.

The Blue Devils jumped in front with an RBI single in the first, but the Cardinals answered with two in the second. Connor McClennen tied the score with an RBI single, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Colin Cornwell.

LTU went in front for good with three in the third. SVSU attempted to rally starting with an RBI single in the seventh from Hayden Jatczak to make it a 4-3 LTU lead. After the Blue Devils added a run in the top of the eighth, McClennen earned his second RBI of the game with a single to left in the bottom half.

Tucker Roe got on base for the Cardinals to start the ninth on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Blue Devils closed it out with two strikeouts, stranding Roe on base.

Kendall Anthes took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits, walking one, and striking out seven in five innings.

SVSU returns to action with one 9-inning game against Concordia University at 3:05 pm Thursday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
