Walker scores in 2OT to lift (RV) Cardinals to win at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team hit the road for the first time in 2021, traveling to Tiffin University for a non-conference matchup Friday in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Dragons scored the opening goal of the game, putting (RV) SVSU behind on the scoreboard for the first time this season. The Cardinals rallied to tie the score before the half and the two teams battled into a second overtime period where Brady Walker found the end of a Danny Barlow pass to net the game-winner and give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory.

The win pushes SVSU to 3-0-0 to start the season.

After Joel Daly scored in the 28th minute to give Tiffin the lead, the Cardinals quickly answered the bell. Chidie NNolim scored the first goal of his SVSU career on a feed from senior Gabriello Calamita in the 36th minute.

The second half was scoreless with several yellow cards going the way of the Dragons, including a second yellow to Tobias Rawson, putting SVSU up a man in the 75th minute.

In the 104th minute, SVSU found the game-winner on the Walker goal from Barlow. The goal was the third of the season for Walker.

SVSU outshot Tiffin 18-14. Callum Harley made his second straight start for the Cardinals in net, earning the win with five saves to improve to 2-0-0.

The Cardinals remain in Tiffin to take on Lake Erie College at noon on Sunday.
