UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team completed a two-match series against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Grand Valley State University Saturday at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Cardinals fell behind 2-0 after the Lakers controlled the first two sets 25-11, 25-15. SVSU bounced back with a 25-22 win in the third.
Down 22-14 in the fourth, The Cardinals rallied with a 10-1 run to earn a set point, but the Lakers scored the final three points of the match to take the set 26-24. The loss drops SVSU to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the GLIAC.
Maria Vukaj continued to lead the SVSU offense with 17 kills, adding 11 digs and three total blocks. Peyton Gerstacker recorded a team-high 29 assists to go along with 10 digs, while Libero Kelsey Vittitow finished with team-high 19 digs.
Haley Clum finished with a team-high five total blocks as SVSU continued to have a strong presence at the net with 13 blocks as a team.
Lisa Sullivan led the GVSU offense with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Rachel Jacquay added 36 assists and 15 digs.
The Cardinals play a home-and-home series next weekend with Lake Superior State University starting at 3:30 pm Friday in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
