The Saginaw Valley State University football team heads back on the road for a trip to the Lonestar State to take on Texas A&M-Commerce in a nonconference matchup.

The Cardinals (2-3) fell at home last weekend in the Battle of the Valleys to Grand Valley State University, 49-17. The Cardinals did put up 400 yards of total offense in the loss, led by Tommy Scott with 19 carries for 97 yards on the ground.

Isaiah Johnson-Mack, the Meijer Player of the Game against GVSU, hauled in seven receptions for 77 yards and found the end zone for a touchdown.

On the defensive side, Victor Abraham continued his strong season with 10 total tackles, including six solo. Trevor Nowaske added three tackles including a sack for a 10-yard loss.

The Lions are 3-2 to start the 2021 season and are coming off a very lopsided win over Fort Lauderdale last week, 72-6. TAMU-Commerce scored nine touchdowns on the ground, with JT Smith scoring three times, while Carandal Hale and Koby Leavatts each found the end zone twice.

The meeting is the first-ever between SVSU and TAMU-Commerce.
