Cardinals shutout Pride 2-0 on Senior Day

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team concluded the 2021 regular season with a Senior Day victory over Purdue Northwest on Sunday at the SVSU Practice Fields.

The Cardinals scored two second-half goals to earn the win, while Olivia Argeros recorded her 10th shutout of the season in the 2-0 victory. The win moves SVSU to 12-4-2 overall and 9-4-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals have clinched the third seed in the upcoming GLUAC Postseason Tournament starting on Tuesday.

SVSU honored three senior student-athletes with a Senior Day ceremony prior to kickoff. Argeros was joined by fellow seniors Andrea Lopez and Zo Schultz.

After a scoreless first half, SVSU broke through in the 62nd minute of play with the first goal of the season for Sarah Fredrick with the assist going to Amy Babon.

The Cardinals got an insurance goal in the 83rd minute off the foot of Kylie Lukowski, her first of the season. Lea Grunnagel was credited with the assist on the Lukowski goal.

Argeros made two saves in net for the Cardinals in the win.

SVSU hosts rival Northwood University in the first quarterfinals of the 2021 GLIAC Postseason Tournament on Tuesday. The time and location are to be determined.
