Carlson had an exemplary season for GVSU Soccer in leading the team to the programs third consecutive Division II National Championship, and fifth in program history. Carlson was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being named NSCAA All-Americans and NSCAA Scholar All-Americans for excellence on the field and off.

Carlson, a defender, was a dominant presence on a GVSU backline that allowed just eleven goals all season, posted an impressive 17 shutouts, and allowed just one goal in conference play. Her skills blossomed on the field as she developed a knack for making plays on offensive set pieces. She led all GLIAC defenders with five goals and four assists, and was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 29^th.
