Petermann, a senior thrower from Clintonville, Wisconsin, qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2017 for the second straight year, after finishing 14th at the national meet in the Discus Throw a year ago. Petermann turned in his best performance of the 2017 season at the GLIAC Championships earlier this month. Petermann's throw covered a distance of 52.83m which also generated eight points in the team standings for Michigan Tech. By virtue of his second place performance, Petermann earned 2nd Team All-GLIAC honors as a medalist in this this year's championship. 

Petermann had an initial provisional qualifying mark of 52.22m at the GVSU Al Owens Invitational on April 21st, but helped solidify his spot in the national championships with his toss in the GLIAC Championships. Petermann wass ranked 8th in the Discus Throw in the Midwest Region and 15th nationally going into the championships. 

Petermann boasts a 3.65 GPA and is a software engineering major. He has been a GLIAC Academic All-Excellence honoree in 2014,15,16, and now 17.
