BAY CITY, Mich. - Ohio Domincan University senior defender Joe Pissocra (Dublin, Ohio) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after leading the Panthers to a pair of wins last week.

Ohio Dominican senior Joe Pissocra
scored the equalizing goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation
and assisted on the game-winning score in ovetime of the
Panthers’ 2-1 road upset
of No. 4 University of Charleston (W.Va.) on Friday evening.
Pissocra also anchored the ODU backfield that held Saginaw Valley
State University to just one shot on goal and five shots overall in
Sunday’s 2-0 victory.

Ashland
Eagles
The Eagles were 1-1 in a pair of
games last week. Ashland dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at
Slippery Rock on Friday before picking up a 2-0 win over visiting
GLIAC foe Lake Erie on Sunday. Freshman Louis Clark (Brighton,
England/Hove Park) scored a pair of goals on the week – one
in each game. Junior Alex Finy (Westerville, Ohio/North) and
sophomore Mitch Deyhle (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) each had assists
on the week, while senior Kelly Desmond (Westerville, Ohio/North)
also scored. Sophomore goalkeeper Kurt Innes (Vermilion, Ohio) made
his second start of the season against the Storm and kept the first
clean sheet of his career. The Eagles now hold an 18-game unbeaten
streak in regular season conference play. Ashland’s last
regular season GLIAC loss came at Northwood on Oct. 17, 2008.
Findlay Oilers
The Oilers did not play this week. This week Findlay face Urbana at home on Tuesday, October 12th at 4pm and Ohio Valley at 4pm on Friday, October 15th. They are on the road Sunday, October 17th againstt Ohio Dominican at 4:30 pm
Lake Erie Storm
Sophomore goalie Rick Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) was outstanding for the Storm, making 34 saves in a pair of games as Lake Erie went 0-1-1. In a scoreless tie against Seton Hill on Thursday, Carreira faced 33 shots and made 18 saves to singlehandedly earn the point for the Storm. Carreira was nearly just as good against Ashland on Sunday making 16 saves, the most shots a goalie has ever stopped against the Eagles. The Storm will travel this weekend and face Saginaw Valley on Friday, October 15th. On Sunday, October 17th they will be at the Midland Soccer Complex facing Northwood
Northwood Timberwolves
The Northwood University men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 road victory over Saint Francis (IN) Saturday afternoon (October 9). Northwood is now 5-4-2 overall on the year. After a scoreless first half, Northwood broke through in the 59th minute on a goal by Mitchell Brent (Milton Keynes, England). His third goal of the season came off a feed from Liam MacHugh (Toronto, Canada/Neil McNeil) to give the Timberwolves the lead. The Cougars evened the score in the 75th minute, but Northwood would respond with what would prove to be the game winner less than two minutes later, Hugo Curminas (Campeche, Mexico) found the back of the net off a pass from Chen Tsfania (Hod Hasharon, Israel) for the match. Northwood held a 19-12 advantage in shots. The Timberwolves also finished with a 5-3 edge in corners. NU returns home for a match against Ashland Friday night (October 15). The game will take place at the Midland Soccer Complex and will get under way at 7 p.m.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
The Panthers went 2-1-0 last week
falling 1-0 at home to Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon, before
upsetting No. 4 University of Charleston (W.V.), 2-1 in OT, on the
road Friday evening and shutting out Saginaw Valley, 2-0, at home
on Sunday. Joe Pissocra (Sr./Dublin, OH) scored the equalizing goal
with 24 seconds remaining in regulation and assisted on the
game-winning score in OT of Friday’s upset over the Golden
Eagles. Tyler Huerkamp (So./Loveland, OH) and Drew Edler
(So./Hilliard, OH) scored their second and third goals of the
season, respectively, in Sunday’s shutout victory. Despite
not recording a save, keeper Tyler Gleason (Sr./Grove City, OH)
posted his GLIAC leading fourth shutout of the season on Sunday
against the Cardinals. ODU continues its homestand this weekend,
hosting Tiffin this Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. and Findlay at 4:30
p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals
The Saginaw Valley State University
men’s soccer team went 1-1 this past weekend, defeating
Rochester (Mich.) by a 1-0 score on Thursday (10/8) and dropping a
contest to Ohio Dominican on Sunday (10/10). Anthony
Palazzolo, senior, scored the Cardinals’ only goal of the
week on a pass from freshman Noah Sawyer. Senior Luke Deming
posted a shutout in the win at Rochester. SVSU is back in
action this weekend with home matches against Lake Erie (10/15) and
Ashland (10/17).
Tiffin Dragons
The Dragons defense held the Blue Knights to only four shots (one on goal) and used a pair of goals in each half en route to a Tiffin 4-1 win over Urbana. Tiffin took a total of 29 shots for the game and put 14 of them on target. Pierre De Pauw, freshman scored a pair of goals while juniors Michael O’Neill and Nick Kutch both found the back of the net for the first time this season. Senior Jeff Frisch improved to 6-3 in goal for the Dragons…the Dragons played the game wearing pink jerseys and did a number of promotions to promote Breast Cancer Research and Awareness.
