Hillsdale Rises to No. 1 NCAA D-II Women's Basketball Midwest Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has released this week's Division II women's basketball regional rankings. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through March 4. Selections will be Sunday, March 8.

Hillsdale College leads a GLIAC contingent of five teams ranked in the third poll of the season.  Michigan Technological University, Northwood University, Grand Valley State University, and Ashland University also appear in this week's rankings.

The Chargers are now on a nine-game winning streak after two wins over South Division rivals last week. The team won its second overtime game against Northwood this season. The Chargers are ranked No. 5 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, its second-highest ranking in school history. The team needs two wins to tie the school record for victories in a season, set in 2002-03 and 2007-08.

Michigan Tech leads the GLIAC North Division by three games over Grand Valley State after it defeated GVSU 65-56 last Saturday. The Huskies will clinch their second straight GLIAC North Division title with a win or a Grand Valley loss. Tech is seeking the program's 13th 20-win season in 2008-09.

Northwood split a pair of road games last week, defeating Findlay 73-60 before falling in overtime to #5 Hillsdale 80-75...NU is now 18-5 overall, 13-5 in the GLIAC.  The Timberwolves loss against the Chargers snapped a six-game winning streak for Northwood, the longest for the Timberwolves since the 1990-91 season when the team had a 10-game streak.

The Lakers had their eight-game home winning streak snapped with a 65-56 loss to #12 Michigan Tech on Saturday. GVSU hadn't lost at Fieldhouse Arena since a Dec. 1 loss to Ferris State. It is now 10-2 at home this season.

Ashland split its two road contests this past week. Ashland beat Saginaw Valley State, 101-61, before losing to Lake Superior State, 72-55. Ashland sits with a record of 14-9 and 10-8 in the GLIAC.
