-- GLIAC Women's Basketball Weekly Notes --

Grand Valley State - The Lakers fell at #1 Northern Kentucky, 66-57, in the opening round of the Midwest Regional Tournament, after trailing just 31-27 at halftime. The loss ends GVSU's season at 20-10, the fourth time in the last five years that the Lakers have won at least 20 games. Grand Valley State also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the past seven years...senior Kim Wyngaard (Kimberly, Wis.) finished her terrific career as a Laker with a 90-33 record and was a member of the 2005-06 Division II National Championship team. She totaled 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in her final game. Wyngaard shot 49.3 percent from the field for her career and scored 860 points while pulling down 490 rebounds. Her 90.8 free throw percentage this year is the top single-season mark in program history. Wyngaard also led the Lakers in field goal percentage (49.8) and three-point percentage (38.7) this season...freshman point guard Jasmine Padin (Wyoming, Mich./Wyoming Park) scored a team-high 18 points, while making four three-pointers in the loss to NKU. This year, Padin set new school records for three-pointers made (73) and attempted (208) in a season. She also dished out a team-high 124 assists, tied for 10th-best all-time in Laker single-season history...the Lakers set new single-season records for free throw percentage (77.8) and made three-pointers (218). The free throw percentage easily outdistances the 2006-07 team, which shot 73.3 and the 218 three-pointers passed the 2005-06 squad, which made 200 triples...GVSU's future looks bright, as the Lakers return 13 of 14 players from this year's team, including four of five starters. Grand Valley State used the same starting lineup for 29 of 30 games this season.

Danae Danen added 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Zimmerman posted eight more points and was also an all-tournament team selection...Shooting was the key for Tech as it went 50 percent from the field including 53 percent (9-of-17) from behind the arc. The Huskies also won the battle of the boards with a 36-24 rebounding edge...Indianapolis was held to 35 percent from the floor including 26 percent in the opening half...Michigan Tech, which has improved its record to 27-6, will now face Minnesota State Mankato in the national quarterfinal game March 24 at 12 noon. Northwood - The Northwood University women's basketball team saw the best season in program history come to an end with a 70-51 loss to Michigan Tech Friday night (March 13) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament...NU ends the year with a school-record 21-8 record...shooting proved to be the key statistic all night, as Northwood shot 30.5 percent overall (18-59)...the Timberwolves shot just 2-20 from beyond the arc...senior Sarah Glowacki (Freeland, Mich.) led the way for Northwood in her final career game, finishing with 19 points.
