LILBURN, Ga. — The Michigan Tech
women’s basketball team will enter the NCAA Tournament as the
No. 3-ranked squad in the USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Coaches’
Poll. The Huskies, fresh off their second GLIAC Tournament
Championship in the last three years, own a 28-2 overall
record.
Tech, which opened the year ranked No. 1 and has been in the top
five all season, defeated Northwood, Lake Superior State and
Northern Michigan last week to claim the GLIAC Tournament
title.
The two teams ranked ahead of Tech in the national poll are Gannon
(33-0) and Franklin Pierce (28-1). Indianapolis is the only other
Midwest Region team in the national poll at No. 5.
The Huskies are the top seed and host of the 2010 NCAA Midwest
Regional this weekend. Tech faces Northern Kentucky Friday (Mar.
12) in a regional quarterfinal contest at the SDC Gym.
