Ashland's Snyder Chosen As GLIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Bay City, Mich. -- Ashland University junior forward Casey Snyder was choses as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Women's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the league office.

Snyder knocked in a hat trick on Wednesday against Urbana, in the Eagles 5-2 victory. Snyder's three goals were the first three goals of the contest to give AU a 3-0 lead. She also provided the game winning goal against the Blue Knights. Against Northern Michigan on Sunday, Snyder knocked in the game winning goal at the 84:22 mark. Snyder now has eight goals on the season and has all four game winning goals in AU's four victories.

--GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Notes--

Ashland - Ashland earned two victories this past week. On Wednesday (Sept. 10), the Eagles beat Urbana 5-2. Junior Casey Snyder recorded a hat trick in the contest to lead the Eagles. In the opening of GLIAC play, Ashland earned the victory of Northern Michigan on Sunday (Sept. 14). Snyder provided the only goal of the contest in the 85th minute. Snyder now has 8 goals on the season to lead the team. AU will host Ferris State on Friday (Sept. 19) and will travel to Grand Valley on Sunday (Sept. 21).

Ferris State - Becci Houdek's 15 saves versus Grand Valley State Sunday (9/14) represents the third highest single-match save total in FSU women's soccer history, bettering the 14 stops set by Alana Dombrowski on two occasions - vs. Spring Arbor (9/19/02) and against St. Joseph's, Ind. (10/9/02)...The Bulldogs are 5-3-1 (.611) all-time in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opening matches dating back to the 1999 season. FSU sports a 4-2 (.667) mark in its last six conference openers after suffering a 3-0 conference loss to nationally number-one ranked Grand Valley State Sunday (9/14) at Big Rapids. Ferris State is 2-1 at home and 3-2-1 on the road in GLIAC opening contests to date.

Findlay - The Oilers lost their only game last week 2-1 at Tiffin...The Oilers surrendered two goals in the opening 23 minutes of the game and could not find the back of the net until sophomore Brianna Milne scored unassisted off of a rebound at the 64:00 mark.

Grand Valley State - The Lakers held on to the No. 1 rank in the NSCAA/Adidas poll with wins over Saint Joseph's (Ind.) and Ferris State...GVSU is now 6-0, 1-0 GLIAC on the year and has won six straight to start the season...The Lakers have now won 14 straight conference matches dating back to the 2006 season...They have also won 25 straight regular season matches...Senior keeper Kristina Nasturzio (Mississauga, Ont.) started the season with a shutout streak of 375:40 before surrendering a goal in the 31st minute against Saint Joseph's...Junior Irie Dennis (New Albany, Ohio) scored a goal in each match this week, giving her a team-leading five goals on the year...Of those five goals, four have been game-winners...Senior midfielder Meghan Robinson (Woodstock, Ont.) and sophomore Erika Pitroff (Columbus, Ohio) both scored their first goals of the season this week, while senior Joyce Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded her first point of the year with an assist on a Tafler goal.

Northern Michigan - The NMU women's soccer team has played six of its first seven games of the 2008 season at home...The Wildcats are 3-3-0 in Marquette and 4-3-0 overall...The ‘Cats split over the weekend with a non-conference win over Minnesota-Duluth (1-0) and a GLIAC loss to Ashland (0-1)...Kara Music recorded her NMU career-leading 15th shutout on Friday over the Bulldogs with seven saves...Music has a GAA of 0.73...In two of NMU's three losses the ‘Cats were shutout...Seven different ‘Cats have at least one goal this season, Kari Buckel has two to lead the team...Dana Stephens scored her first goal of the season against UMD on Friday...NMU still has two more games left on the current home stand this week against Grand Valley State (Sept. 19) and Ferris State (Sept. 21).

Northwood - Northwood's womens soccer traveled to Alma and lost a disappointing match 2-1 against the Scots...Allyson DeLaLuz (Holland, Mich.) tied the game on her second goal of the season at 23:09...The Scots scored in the 85th minute to score the game winner...NU women's soccer hosts Findlay and Tiffin this upcoming weekend Friday and Sunday.

Saginaw Valley State - Saginaw Valley State was idle last week.

Tiffin - Shelly Rogers netted her fourth goal of the season, the game winner off a free kick as TU beat Findlay 2-1 in their GLIAC opener...Abby Grieser posted 6 saves in getting the win in the net over 90 minutes...Vickie Galaska also scored a goal off a penalty kick in the win over Findlay...TU is ranked fourth in the region and also entered the top 25 in the national rankings.
