COLUMBUS, Ohio - Beginning this weekend, the Ohio Dominican soccer and football teams will be sponsoring events to support several charitable organizations.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will wear pink armbands and be raising donations at the gate for their remaining home schedule with one hundred percent of the proceeds going to Lee Denim and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Lee Denim funds research for early detection of breast cancer and support of people diagnosed with cancer. Since its inception in 1982, Komen for the Cure has invested nearly $1.5 billion in becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

The football team will be collecting items for a canned food drive to support the Mid Ohio Food Bank, Holy Family Soup Kitchen and Bishop Griffin Center at Saturday's game against Findlay. As part of Veterans Appreciation Day, the team will also honor all military veterans in attendance.

Both soccer teams are in action at home this Friday, Oct. 15 against Tiffin as part of an ODU soccer doubleheader. The men do battle with the Dragons at 5 p.m. while the women are slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time. The football team kicks off against the Oilers at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
