MIDLAND, MICH. – Max Bain, a former pitcher for the Northwood University baseball team, has signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Bain becomes the third Timberwolves in the last three years to sign a contract with a Major League Baseball team. He joins Tyler Jandron, who signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks following the 2018 season and David Vinsky, who was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals after the 2019 season.

Bain is coming a pair of standout seasons for the Timberwolves. He has gone 13-3 with a 3.66 ERA, striking out 132 batters in 123 innings. This season, Bain was named First Team All-GLIAC, finishing the year with seven wins and a team-best 78 strikeouts. He threw the second no-hitter in school history April 6 at Parkside. For his no-hitter, he was named the NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week. He finished his career ranked second in school history in win percentage (.778) and eighth in program history in strikeouts (151).

Over the final three years of Bain's career, Northwood went 117-50 (.701), won two GLIAC Championships and GLIAC Tournament Championships and reached the NCAA Tournament three times.
