#4 GLIAC NORTH - MEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON COACHES POLL
GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS (13-15 OVERALL, 9-13 GLIAC)

2015-16 Grand Valley State Men's Basketball Preview

After missing the GLIAC Tournament for the first time during 12th year head coach Ric Wesley’s tenure at GVSU, the Lakers look to return to postseason play in 2015-16. Grand Valley State lost 1,200-point scorer Ryan Sabin to graduation, but the Lakers bring back nine letterwinners and three starters for the upcoming season.

Leading the way for GVSU is senior forward Ricardo Carbajal, who averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, as he ranked fifth in the league in free throws made (104), free throws attempted (141), and sixth in steals (48). Junior guard Luke Ryskamp finished 2014-15 at 13.0 points per game and upped that average to 16.1 points per game over the final 15 contests. Also returning to the backcourt is senior Aaron Hayes, who posted 7.9 points in just over 19 minutes per game last season.

The Lakers have a number of other contributors, including seniors Darren Kapustka (6.9 points per game, 73 assists) and Chaz Rollins (7.8 points, 5.9 rebounds in 2013-14) and junior Trevin Alexander (5.8 points, 5.7 rebounds). GVSU has a five-member recruiting class, highlighted by Juwan Starks, a shooting guard who averaged 18.4 points per game and went 105-for-203 (51.7%) from three-point range at Kishwaukee Community College last season.
